Cycletour from Mecca to Rom
It is now almost certain that the cycling tour Rome-Mecca in autumn 2009 will be followed up, but now in the reverse direction. A team of cyclists, many of whom cycled also in 2009, would like to start in April 2011 in Jeddah, for a good 4000 kilometers back to Rome.
In 2011 the whole route through Saudi Arabia can probably be done by bike. In 2009 the Saudi authorities saw too many security risks to do so. There are already concrete ideas about the route to follow in 2011. The group will probably pass through the Lebanon and in Turkey they will not follow the coastal road but will cycle through the Turkish mainland. There are a number of issues still need to be developed further.
The organization wants to the number of participants to be around 20. There will probably be the opportunity to cycle only part of the tour.
