Categorie: nieuws engels Last week our President and Road-Captain
Last week our President and Road-Captain Leo Schmidt visited Amin Taher in Wangen (near de Bodensee in Germany. The results of this visit will be told in this update. Earlier this year Leo, together with his wife Ellen, visited Turkey to make the last appointments for our tour through Turkey. They got a very cordial reception by Mrs. Sedef Bircan, president of R.C. Antalya Olympia and many other members of the club. We can count on a warm welcome during our cycling tour through Turkey. Apart from the “Rotary” companionship there exists in Turkey a lot of enthusiasm for the idea “People for People”; bridging the differences between people and religious groups.
For the part of the tour through Syria and Jordan the help of Amin Taher is indispensable. Amin is a member of the Rotaryclub in Wangen but also of R.C. Amman in Jordan. He is an expert on travelling in the middle east. He is also a big help in organising our tour through Saudi-Arabia. It is expected that the next weeks will give us definitive information about hotels along the tour. We hope that we will then also receive our visa for Saudi Arabia.
There is also a lot of enthusiasm for our tour in Jordan. Members of Rotary Clubs in Jordan will accompany us, on bicycle, throughout Jordan and several of them will also join us through Saudi-Arabia.
There are problems too of course. It appears that the transport of our bicycles in the truck back from Jeddah to the Netherlands will be impossible due to customs regulations. So now we look for a possibility to organise a bus for every country we travel through. The Avis company in Turkey will sponsor a van for our trip through Turkey.
Transport of the bicycles from Jeddah to Europe will then go by plain.
